The Very Next Thing Tour – Press Release
Multi-platinum selling and GRAMMY® winning group Casting Crowns will hit the road in 2018 for the final leg of its hugely successful “The Very Next Thing” Tour, featuring special guests I AM THEY. The Very Next Thing Tour has hit 100 major markets since Fall 2016, resulting in some of the most successful shows of Casting Crowns͛ career. With multiple sold-out performances and an overall attendance topping 435,000, The Very Next Thing Tour has become the most attended Crowns tour since 2008. Presented by Compassion International, the 30-city spring leg of The Very Next Thing Tour runs from March to early May of 2018, with tickets on sale now in most markets. The Very Next Thing Tour supports Casting Crowns͛ current studio album, The Very Next Thing (Beach Street/Reunion). This marks the group’s 15th release and eighth studio album since the label debut release in 2003. With more than 10 million records sold, Casting Crowns has held the position of Billboards top-selling act in Christian music since 2007.
The biggest headlining artist in Christian Music today… Casting Crowns. Casting Crowns is one of the most successful Contemporary Christian artists with sales in excess of 10 Million from its RIAA 2x Platinum record (CASTING CROWNS), five RIAA Platinum albums, two RIAA Platinum DVDs and seven RIAA Gold albums. Having also released four Gold DVDs, one RIAA Platinum certified single and five RIAA Gold certified digital singles; the band currently holds the position as Billboard’s top-selling act in Christian music since 2007.
Having served as a full-time youth pastor for over 25 years, Casting Crowns’ front man, Mark Hall, continues to draw inspiration from the well of real life. “Because we have the honor of walking with people in our churches, we get to see what people are going through – the issues that are impacting everyone now,” shares Hall. “It’s in these situations that ideas are born for what we all need to hear right here and right now.” The local church has been the base for Casting Crowns’ music since their label debut release in 2003. With more than ten millions records sold and the title of Billboard’s top- selling act in Christian music since 2007, it’s still where the music is created. Hall and his bandmates – Juan and Melodee DeVevo, Megan Garrett, Brian Scoggin, Josh Mix and Chris Huffman – continue to work in ministry in their respective churches. The local church is the heartbeat of the band and the songs are an outpouring of that. The Very Next Thing, Casting Crowns’ latest offering, is a collection of intimate songs as well as upbeat, fresh sounding tracks with impactful lyrics centered around identifying and acting on what’s right next to you.
I AM THEY is made up of Abbie Parker (vocals/harmonium), Jon McConnell (vocals/guitar/keys), Matt Hein (vocals/guitar/mandolin), Justin Shinn (keys/banjo) and Sara Palmer (drums) represent I AM THEY.
The inspiration for the band’s name comes from John 17. “In that chapter,” shares Sara Palmer. “Jesus is praying for his disciples and refers to them as ‘they.’ He’s praying and saying things like, ‘Sanctify them. Make them holy. They are not of the world because I am not of the world.’ He’s really interceding for his disciples. We are disciples of Christ and being disciples is just as important today as it was back then. We’re still here for the same purpose on the same mission with the same calling, bringing people to the Lord and spreading the news of the Gospel to people. We really wanted to incorporate that into our mission as a band, saying that anybody who is a believer in Christ is a ‘They.’ They are a disciple as well so we can stand together in that and really bring people into the ‘I AM THEY’ family because we are all family in Christ.”
